Why a New Solution Was Needed
Players had to rely on websites, social media posts, emails, and manual messages just to find competitions or schedule updates, leading to confusion and missed information.
Joining a league often required forms, phone calls, or in-person communication, which slowed down onboarding and created unnecessary friction for players and teams.
Captains struggled to coordinate players, track availability, and manage team details due to the lack of a centralized digital system.
Schedule changes or announcements were often shared manually, resulting in late updates, miscommunication, and inconsistent experiences for players.
Players found it hard to explore competitions based on their skill level, location, or preferred format. Everything was spread out, making it harder for new players to join the sport.
Advanced stack behind smarter sales outreach
Volley+ was built as a future-ready mobile platform to elevate the entire volleyball experience in Melbourne. Using Flutter, the team delivered a smooth, cross-platform mobile experience with modern UI and fast performance. The backend was developed with PHP and Laravel, ensuring robust API architecture, data security and long-term scalability with MySQL handling large volumes of player, team, and match data efficiently.
To enhance communication, a real-time socket system was implemented, enabling instant match updates, announcements, and live activity streams supporting both indoor Hardcourt Volleyball and indoor Rebound Beach Volleyball formats across multiple Melbourne regions.
Since verified business-performance percentages were not provided, these cards focus on the actual product scope and capabilities.
Tournament registration went from a 45-minute manual process to under 5 minutes per player
Collected from 500+ volleyball club members across Melbourne after the first full competition season

Week 1–2
Stakeholder interviews, user journey mapping, feature prioritisation, and technical architecture planning. GDD and sprint roadmap agreed before design began.
Week 3–5
Wireframes, interactive Figma prototype, and design system created. Player-facing flows reviewed and approved by client before development started.
Week 6–16
Flutter frontend, Laravel API, MySQL database, and Socket.io real-time layer built in parallel Agile sprints — working builds reviewed by client every two weeks.
Week 17–19
Functional testing, performance testing under concurrent load, real-device testing across iOS and Android versions, and user acceptance testing with a pilot group of 50 players

SaturnCube Technologies team overall rating is mostly on the very good side, they need a strong Product/Project Manager to get things going right and I myself could get very good quality, but that was mostly at the cost of time where I had to be resourceful, explain often more than once where and how to solve problems. The team was very good at accommodating constantly changing requirements and building what was not part of the original theme. I would definitely work with them again on my next venture.
